Hjálparfoss is one of the more subdued falls on this list, but I found the two cascades flowing into one pool too romantic not to include. The waterfall is found in lava fields produced from a nearby volcano, and so is surrounded by twisted lava formations, known as columnar basalt. Lupines make this spot even more picturesque, and Icelanders swim in the pool on sunny days. If you’re thinking of proposing to your other half in Iceland, please do it here with a little speech about two becoming one (and tell me how it goes!)
This waterfall is quite close to Gullfoss, so I remained in the same lovely farmhouse here.
